(III) Classification by drilling method
1. **Rotary drill**
- The most common drilling method is to break rocks or soil through the rotation of the drill bit. Rotary drills are suitable for a variety of geological conditions and have high drilling efficiency, but the drilling speed for hard rocks may be slow.
2. **Percussion drill**
- Breaks rocks through the up and down impact movement of the drill bit, and is suitable for complex geological conditions such as hard rocks and pebble layers. The drilling speed of the impact drill is fast, but the drilling accuracy is relatively low.
3. **Compound Drilling Rig**
- Combining the two drilling methods of rotation and impact, it can be flexibly switched according to geological conditions, taking into account drilling efficiency and drilling accuracy, and is one of the development directions of modern drilling rigs.

2. Main components of drilling rigs

Drilling rigs usually consist of the following main parts:

1. **Power system**
- Provides the energy required for the operation of the drilling rig, which can be an electric motor, internal combustion engine or hydraulic motor. The performance of the power system directly affects the drilling efficiency and reliability of the drilling rig.

2. **Transmission system**
- Transmits the power output of the power system to the drill bit, usually including gear transmission, belt transmission or hydraulic transmission. The design of the transmission system needs to ensure the smoothness and efficiency of power transmission.

3. **Drilling system**
- Including drill rods, drill bits and drilling tools, it is the core part of the drilling rig. The type and material of the drill bit are selected according to the different drilling objects, and the drill rod is used to connect the drill bit and the power system to transmit power and torque.
4. **Control system**
- Used to control the operating status of the drilling rig, including drilling speed, drilling pressure, rotation direction, etc. Modern drilling rigs are usually equipped with electronic control systems that can realize automated drilling and fault diagnosis.
5. **Support system**
- Provide stable support for the drilling rig to ensure the smoothness of the drilling process. The support system usually includes a base, a bracket and a walking device, and some drilling rigs are also equipped with retractable legs to adapt to different terrain conditions.

III. Application fields of drilling rigs

(I) Construction field
- **Foundation engineering**: Used for bored pile construction, underground continuous wall construction, etc., to provide a solid foundation for high-rise buildings and large-scale infrastructure.
- **Foundation treatment**: Strengthen the weak foundation and improve the bearing capacity of the foundation by drilling and injecting cement slurry or high-pressure rotary jet piles.
- **Deep foundation support**: During the excavation of deep foundation pits, anchor rods or soil nails are installed in holes to support the slopes of the foundation pit to prevent slope collapse.

(II) Mining field
- **Ore body exploration**: Obtain ore body samples through drilling, analyze the distribution, grade and reserves of the ore body, and provide a basis for mine development.
- **Ore body mining**: In the process of mining, drilling holes are used to drill blasting holes to create conditions for ore mining.
- **Tunnel excavation**: In underground mines, drilling rigs are used for tunnel excavation to provide transportation channels and working space for miners.

(III) Petroleum field
- **Petroleum exploration**: Obtain information about underground oil reservoirs through drilling to determine the location, reserves and mining conditions of the oil reservoirs.
- **Petroleum mining**: Drilling rigs are used to drill oil wells to extract oil and natural gas from underground to the ground. Oil drilling rigs need to have the characteristics of high precision and high reliability to cope with complex underground environments and long-term continuous operations.

(IV) Water Conservancy and Hydropower Field
